Las Vegas veteran leads series’ all-time wins list with five
Late Model Truck Series driver Mark Allison made it two-for-two this year with another victory at Irwindale Speedway and event center on Saturday night.
The series’ two-time season points champion took the lead away from rookie of the year contender Chloe Lynch and never looked back, winning for the second time in 2022 on the 1/3-mile setup and for the fifth time since LMTS returned to action in 2018. Fellow Las Vegas veteran Stan Mullis finished second, with series co-manager Gary Wyatt passing Lynch with just a few laps remaining to take third and Lynch settling for fourth.
Bill Black fell to fifth with truck issues, with series co-manager Mike Riefler taking sixth and Arlie Daniel finishing seventh. Allison and Wyatt each won six-lap heat races prior to the 30-lap feature.
“Mark drove a great race, and we had a lot of movement and action up front all through the feature,” Riefler said. “Gary and I loved taking the trucks back to Irwindale again, and we are excited about how our 2022 season is shaping up. It will be great to return to California in three weeks for another exciting race.”
The LMTS season continues June 4 at The Speedway at Willow Springs in Rosamond, California for the fourth of seven events scheduled for 2022. LMTS drivers aren’t finished with Irwindale though and will return to the iconic track on Sept. 10.
Resurrected in 2018, the LMTS has conducted 20 races throughout the Southwest region in recent years, including a six-race schedule in 2021 after a year away due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Allison won the series points championship in 2018 and 2019, and fellow Las Vegas native Stan Mullis took home last year’s series title.
