Both guys did well in their first truck event. Johnson qualified 14th while Davis had to get in on his time and did so with a solid 19th spot, sending some veterans home on the trailer. Both guys ran conservative at the beginning, with Johnson moving up to 11th and Davis 15th before the first pit stop. A 2 tire stop moved Johnson to 5th at the green and he moved up to 4th before the next caution. He ran mostly on the high line and had a good battle with 2 time champ Todd Bodine for a number of laps which gave him a lot of TV time and positive comments from the announcers. Bodine gave Johnson a shot on the straight, hoping to intimidate the rookie, but Johnson held his ground. Bodine eventually wrecked out. Davis was running a good race near the top ten when he was caught up in someone's wreck which put him behind the wall. Johnson ended up a solid 8th place. Next race will be Darlington- they will still be rookies, but will have shed the " Who are these guys" comments.

The Onion gave the kid a shot because he was crowding him and holding him up a bit. That's truck racin' guys, better get used to that. Wait until Darlington, Martinsville or Bristol. The kid did good to give him room, too much for some laps but he had a good run. The wreck that took out The Onion also damaged Dusty's truck. Dillion hit the 30 in the corner and upset it, spinning it into traffic and Dusty couldn't get woahed up in time. Yes, the kids did beat some established names.
Let's not break our arms patting ourselved on the back when you've got Bellew managed trucks, with MWR support with KBM trucks and Triad engines against guys like Eddie Sharp. It's Bellew Motorsports with solid sponsorship like when Kyle won all those races with the Indian casino. Equipment is not an excuse, They've got some of the best stuff on the grid. Put Skinner or Starr in those trucks and see what happens. Mayhew had electrical issues, Paludo was wrecked, Gaughan had a tire go down, Pursley had problems, the GOAT was wrecked, Kvapil had problems. All racin' stuff for sure but the field is deep. The kids did a great job and I was impressed with how well they did but it's along season.

Gotta agree- the Vision guys are smart- instead of trying to start up a team and spend a couple of years learning the ropes, they have merged with a proven team and bought top line equipment. Johnson will run the full season and try for rookie of the year, while Davis will run a partial season. Johnson has a tough climb ahead of him since he missed the season opener, but with consistent finishes he could be in contention by the time they get to Vegas. My gut feeling is that Vision is using the truck series to get track experience and next year, one or both of these guys will advance to the Nationwide cars.

My new favorite line is "..sending some veterans home on the trailer". Really?? Johnson's ride is locked in on owners points (you have Almirola to thank for that one) and Davis got in on his time....I'll have to recheck the math but that means they only can take credit for sending one driver "home on the trailer". And since most of the "veterans", as you so derogatorily put it, made the field, I'm not sure that you have that much to celebrate. Don't make it sound like you walked up to Skinner, smacked him in the face and said "Go home, old man. You don't belong here with us". Wow you Vision (Air)Heads are so full of yourself.
Current wrecked truck count: Davis-1, Johnson-1 (he helped turn that truck inside of him, so it counts). Darlington should increase these numbers by a factor of 10.

Five didn't make the cut, Buescher Malsem, Eggleston, Raymer and Crawford. Smacking Skinner and calling him an old man is probably not advisable.

LOL. If I were ESPN I'd be more afraid of what Jr Johnson would do. What was that, Jr's mugshot from shinin'?

Well, it was a so-so debut at Darlington for the Vision team. Johnson started 20th while Davis once again got in on his time and started 15th. Johnson and Davis were among 16 drivers in the field who had never set foot at Darlington. Cole Whitt was the most impressive of the lot with a Pole position time. As expected it was a wreck fest, with rookies and veterans all getting whipped by the track " too tough to tame". Jeffrey Earnhardt squeezed fellow rookie Justin Johnson down to the apron and ended his day. Davis managed to dodge all the wrecks and came home in 21st.
