As I said in April, "The Spec Motor is Dead" There where 4 or 5 spec motors racing the open. The highest finishing spec motor was 5th place (Clyne) No other spec motor finished the race. If you don't have a full blown Irwindale motor or a 525 crate motor you are screwed. When Richter said he was going to save the spec motor he was wrong.

The Super Lates and Late models used to be the premier classes at the Bullring. When Richter took over, a lot of drivers hoped a former racer would recognize the problems at the Bullring. Unfortunately, like Stafford before him, he got hooked on that cushy office and decided to spend his time holding on to his job rather than trying to revive the racing. Maybe they should put the Bullring manager's office in the tech barn so he can keep in touch with the people who put on the show. There are a lot of older Supers and Late models out there with spec motors who would run every week if they could afford the fuel and tires. There is no reason they couldn't allow those guys to run on 970's with 10" wheels and pump gas with a weight around 2700#. Then those older cars could be competitive with the current crop of 5 fast guys and they could have 20 cars every weekend. Put the Bandos and Roadsters on Friday nights and run Supers, Mods, Super Stocks and Legends on Saturday.
