Rain postpones NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville
By Reuters | 4/10/2021
NASCAR's Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway, which started on Saturday night, will hopefully be concluded on Sunday.
Because of rain storms in the area, the race has been pushed back a day and is scheduled to restart at 4 p.m. Eastern.
Wet weather delayed the start of the race by about an hour and a half.
After the race started, rain moved in again after 42 laps and the cars headed into the pits to be covered by tarps.
Joey Logano of Team Penske started the race from the pole. But on Lap 4, he was passed by Joe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin, who was in the lead when the race was red-flagged on Lap 42. He had a lead of just over 2 seconds.
Logano will restart the race second. Rounding out the top five will be Ryan Blaney, Martin Truex, Jr., and Chase Elliott.
Also running at Martinsville's paperclip-shaped track on Sunday will be the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
The Xfinity race was postponed after 91 laps had been completed on Friday night. That race is scheduled to start at noon Eastern.
