Hey Kids, While my daughter, Sarah, and her husband, Mike, were on vacation in Kentucky, they looked for property to move to, and bought a race horse instead??? I figured they probably had been taken by a slick Kentucky horse trader. But, what do I know. They ran her for the first time yesterday, and she won. The purse paid for her and a couple of months of care. Here's the video. You might have to wait for it a little. When you first see her, she is 5th. She's wearing #4 and the jockey is one with a green helmet. She took kind of a high line, probably pushing a little. www.youtube.com/cdi#p/search/5/yuQBa7Su218

Hey Kids, After a few not so good races, My daughter's horse, My New Lady, won again. This time Sarah was just hoping she would at least finish in the money, because she was up against some pretty good competition. Before the race started, the TV show I was watching did a little background story about Sarah and Michael being new horse owners from Las Vegas, etc. Then afterward they went to the winner's circle and interviewed Sarah and Michael - pretty cool! Here is the shortcut for the race. You have to click on April 11th, and then on race #2. She is the blue #3. The driver is wearing a white firesuit and a black helmet. Early on, she is 5th. Looked like she was getting a lot of grip on the bottom that allowed her to get to the front. The stick the driver was holding must have triggered the nitrous. www.racereplays.com/tkeewmvflv/

Thanks guys. I think most folks appreciate my racing reports more than they enjoy reading about people being at each other's throats.

Hey Kids, She did it again yesterday! My daughter's horse, My New Lady, won again! Here is the link to the the track's site. www.indianadowns.com/main.asp?SectionID=20&SubSectionID=168You have to click on May 3rd, and then race #8. The horse has the red #1, and the driver is wearing black and white with a red helmet. Even though she apparently qualified on the pole, she had to start last after an engine change. It was just as well, because the inside didn't offer much grip anyway, due to a recent oil-down. The driver took her to the outside and caught the leaders. When she caught them it looks like her outside pass took the air off of their spoilers and got them loose. Careful application of the throttle by the driver allowed her to move on by for the win. When you watch the video, continue after the race is over. This video also shows the winner's circle. The beautiful girl, with the long, dark hair near the horse, is my daughter, Sarah. Verne

That's awesome! If that's the first horse they've bought, they either did their homework or got really lucky... Do they always use the same jockey? I'm not a betting man, but I need to start putting a little money on My New Lady.

Yeah, Chet. That is the first horse they have owned. It was a surprise to me. They have been looking for a farm to move to for a couple of years. When they went on vacation to Kentucky, Sarah called me and said that they had bought a race horse. It was a claimer deal, where 8 people had put their names in a hat, and Sarah and Michael's name was drawn. Yes, Michael and his father had done a lot of research on the horse. And, yes they are very lucky.
They can't always use the same jockey, because the good ones are usually busy. My daughter's horse is with a small outfit. Their trainer only handles about 6 horses, so they usually have to take whoever is available. However, this time Jesus flew from New York just to ride this horse. He rode her the first time she won for the kids too. I think he rode her one other time before they owned her. He really likes her a lot. She has earned him some money. The jockey gets 10% of what the owners win. This race, which was a stakes race, is the highest level she has ever raced at. The kids got 60% of the purse, which was $75,000, and had to pay the trainer 10% and the jockey 10%. This is all great as long as she stays healthy and keeps winning.
Thanks for your interest Momma G., Greg, Chet, Wade, and everyone! Check back soon for a little surprise.

As a part of the HR Racing driver development program, Sarah and Michael have added another horse to their race team. She is Ms. Thanksgiving, but the kids call her Gracie, named after a 90+ year old friend of theirs. She ran today and didn't do too bad, considering that she has never run at the "Stakes" level before, and the horse that won set a new track record. Here is the shortcut. www.indianadowns.com/main.asp?SectionID=20&SubSectionID=168You have to click on the 5th on the calendar, and race 7. She is #6. It is a yellow number on a black number plate. She stayed in 3rd place for a while, but wound up 4th. The driver obviously needs more seat time, but that was to be expected. Verne
