EDC Las Vegas 2020 is still on. But organizers are prepared to postpone
The Electric Daisy Carnival Music Festival has been a number one event for years in the Las Vegas Metro Area. This year sold out in less than a month!
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —
The man in charge of EDC Las Vegas says the organization is still working toward its May schedule while also developing contingency plans if the coronavirus outbreak continues.
Pasquale Rotella, founder and CEO of Insomniac, said in a statement posted to Twitter there are contingency plans for June and other dates in the fall.
An announcement about whether the electronic music festival is postponed will come by mid-April, at least 30 days from the original date of EDC, Rotella says.
"We want to have EDC Las Vegas as soon as it’s safe to do so," he says. "Right now no one can predict when that will be. That’s why we’re taking things day by day – still working toward May but keeping our options open."
If EDC is postponed, refunds would be available for people who can't make the new date, according to Rotella. There would also be a freeze on cancellations for default due to layaway plans.
"Despite what other festivals are doing and despite some people pressing us to postpone the show right now, we don't want to make a premature decision on moving the EDC date - or worse, picking the wrong postponement date," he writes.
Rotella said earlier this month Insomniac would move forward with EDC as scheduled, from May 15 through 17.
The annual festival sees thousands of people head to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for three nights of electronic dance music.
While ticketholders await further news on that front, promoter Insomniac has launched a YouTube channel, on which it has begun airing sets from its past festivals, including the five most recent EDC Vegas installments, EDC Orlando, EDC Mexico, HARD Summer and Okeechobee Festival. The content, which will also include new episodes of Insomniac's Gold Cart Confessions interview series, will run 24 hours a day through March 31.
The Insomniac channel will also host a Virtual Rave-A-Thon, featuring fresh live DJ sets, Friday, March 20 and Saturday 21, from 8 p.m. to midnight Vegas time.
