Justin Johnson qualified on the pole and won the first SLM main at Irwindale last night. His teammate Dusty Davis won the second main with Johnson finishing 3rd. Johnson is now 1st in points with Davis 2nd. Talk is that they hired former Irwindale champ Rip Michaels to manage the team. More talk is that they bought 2 K&N West cars to run a limited schedule this year before making a big move up in 2011.

Dusty Davis won his second main of the year last night after Justin Johnson and Jason Patison tangled while fighting for the win. Patison, a K&N East series driver, went into the wall and couldn't continue while Johnson was sent to the rear of the field. Johnson went from last to 6th place on the green/white/checker and still holds the series points lead after last night's event.

In the second event Johnson led all laps and won with Davis again in the 4th spot. Johnson stretched his lead in the series points standings.

Justin Johnson and Dusty Davis continue to hammer the competition at Irwindale. In last night's twin mains, Johnson took home 2 wins with Davis posting a 2nd and a 3rd. Johnson was fast qualifier as well, but the invert put him in 5th for the start of the first main. Within 17 laps he had taken the lead and never looked back. At the end he was 2 seconds ahead of his teammate Davis. Starting on the pole in the second event, Johnson had clean air ahead of him and in familiar fashion checked out on the field, leading every lap and winning by a 7 second margin. Johnson now holds a commanding lead in the series points battle. Word is that he will debut in the West series at the July 3 event.

Vision's dominance continues to roll at Irwindale. Dusty Davis was fast qualifier last night. In the first main Justin Johnson got the jump and led all the way for his 5th victory of the season. In the second main, Davis got the lead and pulled away as Johnson and Randel King put on a driving exhibition, battling cleanly side by side lap after lap. Davis won and King led Johnson for 2nd. That gives the Vision team 8 wins out of 11 events. Johnson continues to lead the series points by a wide margin and has moved up considerably in the National points standings. The next event will be the July 3 race in which Johnson and Davis will pull double duty, running Superlates and also making their first starts in the K&N West series.

It seems Vision Air(heads) finally found a crew chief that figured out the formula for success....Run at a track where there's no competition.
Look for both of their K&N cars to be near the back of the pack and the crew chief to be fired for "not producing results" following the next race.

Topfive: If anyone cared what Johnson and Davis were doing they would be at the races. Not so sure that either driver has any fans here.

if you brought back: nick joanides, rip michels, danny gay, bear rzesnowiecky, luis martinez jr, david ross, mackena bell, duane hunt, rickey mccray, dan moore, mike eshleman, dennis furden, jeff eshleman, stephen peace, matt hicks, and chazz anderson... i'm pretty certain that the VAR guys wouldn't be winning. (in case you missed it that's 16 top cars GONE) it's easy to win when the top competitors all left the track. this year there are so many new people that are rookies or new to the track that have no idea how to get around it, that it's amusing to see how excited you seem to be over a win at a track with about 5 start and park cars on a regular basis. (all the names I listed finished higher in points last year than the VAR guys did, i know the VAR guys ran only from August til the end of the season)

Of course if you brought back Brandon Loverock, David Gilliland, Sean Woodside, Tommy Fry,Tim Woods etc, maybe Michaels and Joanides wouldn't have won as much as they did either. I think the Vision team would welcome any and all of those names back- It would be good racing with Michaels and Joanides and the rest of them would just add to the car count for more national points.

...or if Vision Air(heads) came back to Vegas (or even Orange Show) where the compitition is, they'd be running near the back...well, Johnson would probably run into half a dozen cars in an attempt to get to the front and wreak half the field. But Davis has no huavos when he's around real race cars so he'd be a field filler. Still, you'd end up with the same junk from the past 2 seasons...bad drivers and a rotating crew that come and go depending on the finishing spots of Dumb & Dumber.

David Ross spent 4-5 years at Irwindale and never won a race- then he goes to Orange show and wins every weekend. Johnson has won at Vegas, Blythe, Orange Show and Irwindale- seems like as soon as he shows up the competition packs up and moves somewhere else.

I am not sure of the reason for the hating on Justin Johnson. In my experience dealing with him he was always very nice and willing to offer any help or advice to us in the pits.
I do notice though, that people tend to say bad things about the well funded teams (see comments about Ewing Bros. this year). While I know alot of the comments about Ewing Bros relates to Dustin Ash (and I am not a fan), I think Nick Halen and Robert Ewing have shown in the past couple years that they are not aggressive, dirty drivers!
